The Challenge: Solving the Access Conundrum

The scope of work—replacing the sunroom's flat roof membrane—was technically simple, but the logistical barriers were significant. The work area was surrounded by obstacles that prevented standard access: a busy street, an active small parking lot, and a 100-year-old protected tree.

Conventional material staging and crew access from the ground or direct roof entry were impossible without shutting down traffic or risking damage to the protected landscape. Our primary operational challenge was determining a safe, efficient, and non-disruptive way to get materials and trades onto the roof and execute the work in a single day.

Our Solution: Creative Logistics and Precision Planning

Our focus was on engineering a solution that bypassed the on-site obstacles, ensuring the project remained on schedule and within the $12,470 budget.

Engineered Access Strategy:
We solved the access issue by pivoting the entire operation. Instead of trying to access the roof from the front, we utilized a boom lift strategically positioned on a quieter side street.

Zero-Interruption Execution:
This approach allowed us to safely elevate materials and personnel directly to the roof deck, completely bypassing the busy street and the parking lot. Critically, this methodology ensured zero interruption to the flow of traffic and prevented any risk of damage to the historic tree.

Efficiency and Control:
I managed the material and trade logistics for this unconventional setup, ensuring all resources were coordinated for a successful single-day completion on December 14, 2024.

The Result

Legacy Construction Inc. successfully executed the sunroom roof membrane replacement under tight logistical constraints. The project was completed safely, on time, and on budget, demonstrating our ability to deliver results even when site access is highly restricted. This project highlights our strength in planning for and overcoming operational obstacles to ensure critical work is completed without disrupting the client's operations or the public.
